Under-20s Finish Strikers’ Weekend On A High

Apr 23, 2018 by

The Brisbane Strikers Under-20s team ensured their club’s weekend of fixtures against Olympic FC ended on a positive note tonight when they overcame Olympic 4-2 at Goodwin Park.

Olympic stunned their visitors by taking a 2-0 lead by midway through the first half through two clinical strikes by first team regular Kieran Sanders.

But Strikers gained a foothold just before the half time break with a headed goal from Matt Gordon before Braedon Steel drew them level when he swooped on a rebound to net in the fifty-ninth minute.

Substitute Joel Anich (pictured) put Strikers ahead 3-2 only three minutes later with an expertly-taken direct free kick before Olympic were reduced to ten, and then nine men, through dismissals as they lost discipline in what had been a fiercely contested game from the outset.

Josh Matcham made sure of the win for Strikers two minutes into stoppage time with a low drive from close range to make the final score 4-2 to his team.
