Strikers Seek Redemption Against NPL Champions

The Brisbane Strikers are hoping to avenge their disappointing loss against Brisbane City in their home opener last weekend, with a strong showing against reigning NPL QLD champions the Gold Coast Knights this Tuesday night.

Strikers take on the Knights just three days after Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Brisbane City, but Club Captain Jake McLean says the tight turn around will not affect the team’s ability to deliver a good performance.

“We expect to win every game and we had some good battles against the Knights last year,” he said.

“They’ve got a quality squad, so we need to be switched on, but we aren’t too worried about the quick turn around.”

“For me as a player I sometimes even prefer to just be playing games a lot rather than having a big chunk of time between matches.”

Strikers’ star fullback Chris Maher also expressed an eagerness to right the wrongs of Saturday’s loss saying that Tuesday’s match is a perfect opportunity for redemption.

“The tight turnaround does make things difficult, but I think the lads are fired up for a tough a game and just want to redeem themselves quickly,” Maher said.

Head coach Owen Baker echoed the sentiment of his players saying that the game against the Knights will be among the toughest of the season but that he expects an improved performance from his team.

“This is football we can’t dwell on the City game, we have to dust ourselves off, recover well on Monday and we’ll be raring to go for Tuesday,” Baker said.
