Strikers Return For Pre-Season

Brisbane Strikers head coach Owen Baker is looking to set the standard early as his charges return for pre-season training.

Just a little over a month since playing their last competitive game – a history-making FFA Cup Semi Final against Hyundai A-League high-flyers Melbourne City – Brisbane Strikers are commencing the long road to glory in 2020.

The playing group will commence their pre-season this week with a heavy focus on physical conditioning before embarking on their pre-season match schedule.

Baker said on the back of last season’s strong finish to the year, which saw the side win 11 of their last 15 games in all competitions, he is eager to get back to work preparing for the next campaign.

“We are back in and looking forward to a new season,” Baker said.

“We gave ourselves a few extra weeks off due to the FFA Cup run extending our season later than most other clubs and I think that was important to do for everyone.”

“The players have had the time to recharge physically and mentally and now they come back in really ready to get to work.”

Embarking on his second full season in charge of the team, Baker said he has taken key learnings from last year’s pre-season and is refining his preparations for the next campaign.

“Of course, pre-season consists of the gym and field work that lays down the foundation for the year ahead,” he explained.

“But we have new ideas about how to do things differently because we want to challenge ourselves to always improve and innovate.”

“We know we had a great end to last season but now we start afresh and we look to evolve. It is an exciting time for the players and the coaches.”

Baker said his ambitions for the season ahead should come as no surprise as they are firmly aligned with the ‘Strikers Way’.

“Our fans always know we have the highest of standards and ambitions at Brisbane Strikers,” he said.”

“We want a full season where we challenge in every match in the league and every match in the cup and our pre-season is all about achieving that.”

Brisbane Strikers will begin unveiling its 2020 season playing squad – including both signings and re-signings – in the coming weeks.
