Strikers look to build momentum against Olympic

After winning their first game since the return of the NPL QLD season last weekend against Redlands United, the Brisbane Strikers are ready to compete with 2019 Grand Final runners-up Olympic FC away from home this Sunday.

So far this season Olympic have been able to maintain their form from last year, sitting in 3rd place on the table just one point behind both Lions and Gold Coast Knights in 1st and 2nd, having beaten Sunshine Coast Wanderers 2-1 away from home last weekend.

Strikers forward Fraser Hills, who earned an NPL QLD Team of the Week selection for his performance against Redlands, says last week’s win can be used a foundation to build upon for an upcoming difficult run of fixtures.

“The team will always improve as time goes on and we are now starting to see a few new players coming in and young lads stepping up so
there is strong competition for places in the starting line up,” says Hills.

“Olympic are a top team and it will be a tough game, we will go out to play our football and hopefully get the 3 points away from home.”

Head Coach Owen Baker echoed the words of his player saying that his side showed great signs last weekend.

“The first-half performance against Redlands was really encouraging from a tactical and technical sense, second half we showed true grit and determination which is needed at this level which I’m really proud about,” says Baker.

“We’ve been able to add some depth to our squad in the last week or so and give some opportunities for some deserving young players which as a club we are excited about.”

“Olympic are a quality outfit coached by an experienced Coach in Ben (Cahn) so we will have to be at the top of our game to nullify their strengths.”
