Strikers Link With Coomera Colts For Junior Development

Oct 31, 2017 by

The Brisbane Strikers have joined forces with northern Gold Coast outfit Coomera Colts Soccer Club in a formal Partnership Agreement that will see Coomera juniors provided with access to Brisbane Strikers Academy-level coaching and facilities.

Coomera youngsters selected for the Academy opportunity, initially in the Under-9s, 10s, 11s and 12s age groups, will play for Coomera Colts in Football Gold Coast competitions. However, away from game day, they will receive a number of benefits including the opportunity to train with other squads in the Strikers Academy under the supervision of the highly qualified club coaches at Meakin park.

Announcing the Partnership today, Strikers CEO Bruce Dinsdale said “this partnership is a great opportunity for the two clubs to work together to provide the best possible development environment for the young players. The quality coaching that will be able to be provided will be the key platform of the partnership.

“Coomera club fully understand and embrace the concept of working together to benefit the players and we are looking forward to delivering this opportunity”.

Coomera Colts President Alan McFarlane said the partnership with Strikers will break new ground for young footballers from his club.

“We’ve got a lot of talented kids at the club and it gives them a pathway and an opportunity they’ve never been able to have before. We’re very excited about it,” said McFarlane.

According to McFarlane, the decision to enter an agreement with Strikers rather than any other club looking to form a similar type of arrangement with Coomera, was influenced by Strikers’ history and prestige and by other practical considerations.

“It came down to the reputation and the size of the Brisbane Strikers and the aura that goes with them,” McFarlane said.

“It came down to travel time for the parents as well. They (Strikers) were the closest NPL entity and we’re very happy with the decision”.
