The Brisbane Strikers were beaten at home by Brisbane Roar Youth on Tuesday night 3-0.

Coming into the match Strikers were enjoying a good run of form having beaten Brisbane City and Moreton Bay in their previous two matches while Roar Youth were hoping to improve on a disappointing 1-1 draw with Eastern Suburbs.

Strikers began the match in the ascendency working several promising opportunities in the first 10 minutes.

The game soon turned on its head however with Roar Youth growing in confidence and taking the lead as forward Cyrus Dehmie was slipped in behind before taking his chance.

Strikers were unable to work many more meaningful opportunities in the minutes that followed and went into the break trailing.

The second half unfortunately continued in much the same fashion with Roar Youth controlling the ball and dictating the pace of the game.

The visitors would not take long to their double advantage as Cyrus Dehmie once again was slipped in behind the back four before squaring the ball to Cai Tipaldo for an easy finish.

Strikers were unable to impose themselves throughout the match and failed to work any meaningful opportunities for the remainder of the half, conceding a penalty in the dying seconds which Keegan Jelacic tucked home.

The match finished as a 3-0 win for Roar Youth in what was a lacklustre display from Strikers.

“Very disappointing performance for us tonight, we never got out of the blocks, we were second to every ball and our passes were not finding their targets,” says Striker Head Coach Owen Baker.

“We’ve been excellent in the lead up to this game so, to be honest, I’m surprised by our performance tonight, credit to Roar they’re a good side and did their job well tonight but as a group, we need a big reaction because we are much better than that.”

“We’ve got Capalaba at home on Saturday and we need to lift the intensity of our play, still lots of football to be played and points to be earned, so hopefully, tonight was just a one-off and we can return to winning ways come the weekend.”
