Scott, Strikers Return Focus To League

Brisbane Strikers goalkeeper Bon Scott and his teammates are aiming build on their recent FFA Cup triumph when they return to the Gold Coast this weekend in the National Premier Leagues.

Fresh off their emphatic advance to the FFA Cup Round of 32 last weekend over Gold Coast Knights, Brisbane Strikers tackle Gold Coast United on Saturday night at Coplick Family Sports Park.

The fixture will see Brisbane Strikers look to return to winning ways in the National Premier Leagues after their four-match league winning run was halted by Peninsula Power a fortnight ago.

With Gold Coast United sitting six points clear of Brisbane Strikers in the league standings, Scott said the team sees the match as a crucial test of their mettle ahead of their return to the national stage.

“Knowing we are now in the FFA Cup Round of 32, we want to win as many games as we can going into that starting with Gold Coast United this weekend,” Scott explained.

“It’s going to be a good test for us. We know we have to play well in every single game because every game from here on in the league is really a six-pointer for us as well to move up the table.”

Injured for the previous meeting between the sides – a 4-0 defeat at Perry Park in March – Scott explained the team does not need any extra motivation for the clash.

“We had our rough patch earlier in the season but now we have shown what we can do and we want to keep building on that.”

“It isn’t about revenge or anything like that. It is just about playing our best every time we step on to the field no matter who it is against or what happened before.”

To that end, Scott said he remains committed of adding to his tally of four clean sheets this season – but not at the expense of winning football games.

“It’s been a bit frustrating to concede just the one goal in a few games because clean sheets for goalkeepers are what we really want,” he explained.

“We’ve been defending well recently but we have had a couple of lapses that has resulted in goals and we obviously want to rectify that.”

“But, that being said, we are getting the results. At the end of the day, I will take three points for the team over a clean sheet in a nil-all draw any day.”

The match will be the first for Brisbane Strikers at Gold Coast United’s new Coplick Family Sports Park home ground.

However, Scott said the unfamiliar nature of the venue doesn’t concern him at all.

“It doesn’t matter where we play to me really and it will never be used an excuse.”

“We all know that we have a job to do and every player in the team knows what is expected of them.”
