Psychology Seminar For Parents

Mar 05, 2018 by

Last Monday saw the first of a number of initiatives from the Strikers Academy and High Performance Unit to support the development of our young players. But rather than working with the players, this initiative was aimed at the parents!

The club’s sport psychologist, Sabrina Jeffery, held a one-hour workshop at Meakin Park, providing parents with a look at how key concepts in sport
psychology apply to the football context. Sabrina also introduced some basic psychological strategies and coping skills their children/players can use to optimise performance.

Academy Director Russell Hicks commented on the first session.

“This was a free workshop and provided as part of our goal to support the Brisbane Strikers Academy players as well as we can,” Hicks said.

“We understand that we only have them for short periods of time and don’t see them outside of the football environment like parents do. Therefore we be believe it important we help parents to help them.”

The session was well attended and certainly showed that our parents can still play a vital role to assist the boys to get into the ‘Zone’ as well as tools to help them manage pressure and game day anxiety.
