Apr 08, 2019 by

The ‘magic of the FFA Cup’ comes to Perry Park on Tuesday night as Brisbane Strikers commence their 2019 FFA Cup campaign against Souths United.

Brisbane Strikers host the Football Queensland Premier League club in a Round 4 tie – the club’s first Preliminary Rounds home fixture in the competition since 2015.

After previously qualifying for the national stages of the knock-out competition on three occasions, Brisbane Strikers are out to overturn their Preliminary Round exits in their two most recent FFA Cup campaigns.

Both sides come into the match in the midst of indifferent form in their respective league competitions.

Coming off a weekend bye in the National Premier Leagues, Brisbane Strikers currently sit twelfth following a six match winless run in the league.

Souths United are currently second-from-bottom in the lower-tier Football Queensland Premier League with just a single win to their credit this season.

Bon Scott – the 21-year-old goalkeeper is eager to add to his two clean sheets this season with a full-strength backline now available to marshal. He says he wants the full FFA Cup experience with only one previous appearance in the competition during his career.

Andy Pengelly – the team’s leading goal scorer returns to the line-up following his suspension in the team’s last-start defeat to Brisbane City. He will be determined to recapture his early season scoring touch in the winner-takes-all cup setting.

  • Souths United are coached by Mark Dykman, who joined the club from fellow Football Queensland Premier League club Wolves FC during the off-season. He has immediately put his stamp on the team with the majority of players from last year no longer with the club.
  • Souths United are captained by fullback Jake Kallis, who joined the club following an injury -plagued previous campaign with Holland Park Hawks.
  • Souths United boast a number of former National Premier Leagues players in their squad including 2013 Premiership winner Luke Howell, former Moreton Bay United players Moses Joseph and Jacob Mitchell, and brothers Lachlan and Oliver Bond previously of Western Pride.

  • The match marks the first competitive meeting between Brisbane Strikers and Souths United since the 2007 Brisbane Premier League season.
  • Brisbane Strikers have never been defeated by Souths United at Perry Park in three previous clashes at the venue – the hosts scoring three or more goal on each occasion.

Brisbane Strikers have won all four of their previous FFA Cup Preliminary Round ties at Perry Park dating back to 2014.
