Preview – Brisbane Strikers v Moreton Bay United

Mar 09, 2019 by

Brisbane Strikers are aiming for a return to winning ways when they host Moreton Bay United at Perry Park on Saturday night.

Coming into the fixture following consecutive defeats, Owen Baker’s side are eager to secure their first home three points of the season and return to the top half of the table.

Standing in their way is a Moreton Bay United outfit similarly seeking to reignite their campaign after failing to notch a win since the opening round of the season.

A win for Strikers could conceivably return the team to the National Premier Leagues Queensland top four, depending on other results.

Players To Watch

Gabriel Hawash (defender) – a new addition to the squad, Hawash brings title-winning experience with his former club Western Pride and I comfortable anywhere across the back four. He says he is revelling in the professionalism of the club since signing on.

Andy Pengelly (attacker) – Brisbane Strikers’ leading goal scorer with four goals this season, Pengelly will be hungry to find the back of the net once more after being kept quiet the past two weeks at Perry Park.

Jake McLean (midfielder) – the Brisbane Strikers captain will again look to lead by example in the centre of the pitch as he seeks to inspire his teammates to their first home win of the season.

Brisbane Strikers have faced Moreton Bay United on 14 previous occasions in the National Premier Leagues – winning on six occasions. However, Moreton Bay United claimed bragging rights last season with a win and a draw from two meetings.

Moreton Bay United have only once bettered Brisbane Strikers at Perry Park in seven previous attempts. Matches between the sides at the venue have proven high-scoring affairs with all but one match seeing four or more goals scored.

The two sides met in the pre-season at the Kappa Silver Boot tournament, with Moreton Bay United winning 2-1.

Our Opponents

Defensive recruit Alex Tabillon brings a wealth of overseas experience to the Moreton Bay United squad, with Australia the fifth country he has played in following club stints in his native France, Romania, India and Luxembourg.

Moreton Bay United have retained the services of a number of players that stoof out last season – they include 2018 NPL Queensland Team of the Season goalkeeper Behzad Ariayee Ravesh in his second season with the club, captain Alex Janovsky returning for his fourth season season and last year’s club leading goal scorer Chom Arop.

Did You Know?

Brisbane Strikers only National Premier Leagues Queensland Grand Final appearance came against Moreton Bay United in 2015 – a match the Jets won 2-1 via a late strike from Jordan Farina.
