The Brisbane Strikers kept their PlayStation ® 4 NPL Queensland premiership hopes alive and wrapped up qualification for finals football when they demolished Northern Fury 5-1 at the Townsville Sports Reserve in Townsville tonight.

A brace each to midfielder Jake McLean (pictured) and fullback Hiroki Omori, and one to centre half Jake Marshall, did the scoreboard damage as a dominant Strikers outfit raced to a 5-0 lead over a Fury side who gained a late consolation goal to Jarrod Green.

The win saw Strikers close to within three points of league leaders Gold Coast City FC, while opening up a three-point gap over third-placed Olympic FC, who were were held to a 0-0 draw by SWQ Thunder in Toowoomba.

The three points gained by Strikers also confirmed their place in the top four and guaranteed finals football, maintaining their one-hundred percent record in PlayStation ® 4 NPL Queensland finals football since the competition kicked off in 2013.

The club has now qualified for fourteen consecutive finals campaigns across the four competitions it has contested since the 2003/04 National Soccer League season (NSL, Brisbane Premier League, Queensland State League and PlayStation ® 4 NPL Queensland).

Strikers coach Sean Lane said he had been delighted with the team’s performance overall and reserved particular praise for McLean’s performance.

“I thought McLean put on an absolute masterclass tonight. That was the most complete performance I’ve seen from a midfielder all year,” Lane said.
