Mecca Bah Serves Up A Man Of The Match Treat For Strikers Players – And Fans!

Feb 01, 2018 by

The Brisbane Strikers like to play a tasty brand of football and this season those Brisbane players who do it best for our senior team will find themselves rewarded in kind, courtesy of Mecca Bah.

The restaurant, which specializes in Moroccan and Middle Eastern cuisine, has generously stepped forward to sponsor the Brisbane Strikers Man of the Match award at each home game.

Each Brisbane Strikers Man of the Match will earn a delicious dinner for two at the Mecca Bah at either of its Emporium Brisbane (Fortitude Valley) or Broadbeach (Gold Coast) restaurants*.

Mecca Bah owner Jack Sarkis, a confirmed football fan, said that sponsoring a Man of the Match award with Brisbane Strikers was a natural option for his restaurant.

“Football is the world game and football people are generally curious and open-minded about the world – and that includes its foods,” he said.

“We offer a quality dining experience with a menu guaranteed to cater for those who want to indulge their curiosity for something international and out of the ordinary.

“We wanted to get involved with a suitable football club in our area of Brisbane and Strikers is the perfect fit – a quality and ambitious club that prides itself on an exciting brand of football and is located only a few minutes away”.

Brisbane Strikers CEO Bruce Dinsdale said his club was delighted that Mecca Bah had come on board to sponsor its Man of the Match.

“Our Man of the Match voting has always been popular with our fans but in recent seasons the only real reward our players got from turning in an outstanding performance was the knowledge that their efforts were appreciated by the fans and their team mates, with the votes counting towards the supporters’ Player of the Season award,” Dinsdale said.

“Those things are still important, but Mecca Bah’s sponsorship will provide some real icing on the cake, to use a food analogy,’ he continued.

“What’s more, their menu offers some really enticing and healthy options for athletes who want to look after their bodies – and that’s also a perfect fit for us”.

While the Man of the Match award will continue to be judged by the fans, that will occur in a slightly different way than recent seasons. This year five fans will be approached before each home game and given a voting slip to cast their votes for the Brisbane Strikers Man of the Match on a 3-2-1 basis.

Voting slips will need to be returned to the media room in the Perry Park Social Club in the grandstand immediately after the game. The winner will then be announced in the social club amongst the fans and presented with a Mecca Bah restaurant voucher for a meal for two.

But it doesn’t end there. Strikers fans (and not necessarily those involved in the voting) who come along after the match to the Man of the Match presentation will receive a raffle ticket for every purchase they make in the social club. A winner will be drawn after the Man of the Match presentation, with the winning ticket also earning its owner a voucher for a meal for two.

“We wanted to make sure that we used Mecca Bah’s sponsorship of the award to strengthen the bond between the fans, the players and our sponsor,” Dinsdale said. “Having the fans mingle with the players in the social club after the game while the award is made, and to also be eligible for a prize themselves, is one way of doing that”.

The votes cast for each player will be tallied week by week to serve as the count for the Brisbane Strikers Supporters’ Player of the Season award at season’s end.

We extend our sincere thanks to Mr Sarkis and Mecca Bah for their sponsorship of our Man of the Match and we encourage our supporters to check them out – be it at Fortitude Valley or Broadbeach.

Here’s a tantalising hint of what awaits
*Please note that drinks will be at the players’ and fans’ expense.
