Mecca Bah Brisbane Strikers Man Of The Match, Round 3: Greig Henslee

Feb 21, 2018 by

This week’s Mecca Bah man of the match, centre half Greig Henslee, says the Brisbane Strikers showed in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Moreton Bay United they were heading in the right direction after a disappointing display in losing 2-0 to Lions FC in Round 2.

“Obviously there is a concern when you pick up one point from nine,” said Henslee. “A club like us, we should be winning games more times than not.

“But I think the most alarming thing, certainly from last week, was just the energy levels. The energy levels weren’t there last week, so I think the most that you can do in bouncing back from such a dire display is to put in a performance that you can build on.

“We’re looking at the positives and that is that we did put in a dominant performance for most of the game.”

Henslee is best known for snuffing out opposition attacks, but his competitive drive and determination to surge forward at the end of a draining ninety minutes of football in humid conditions saw him make a massive contribution to hauling Strikers back into the contest against United.

With Strikers trailing 1-0 and attacking deep in opposition territory, Henslee took on United’s defence and earned the penalty that led to their equalising goal when his marker handballed Henslee’s intended cross.

“At 1-0 down you kind of start throwing men forward and I found myself in the box and it was a little bit unlucky on the Moreton Bay boy, to be fair,” Henslee said. “I just cut it back and it’s hit his arm. But, look, the same thing happened to me last week.”

Henslee’s Man of the Match prize for another lionhearted effort for the Strikers is a meal for two at Mecca Bah at Emporium, Fortitude Valley or Broadbeach.
