Meakin Park To Host Next Home QSL Game For Strikers

Jun 30, 2012 by

The Brisbane Strikers next home game in the QSL, against Bundaberg Spirit next Saturday, 7 July will be held at Meakin Park, Logan due to remedial work being done at the club’s Perry Park home base.

Drainage problems and shade resulting from the new building constructed at the northern end of the ground at Perry Park have taken their toll on the turf at that part of the main pitch. This has meant the club has had to spend upwards of $10,000 mid-season to repair the damage, while also continuing with work on the turf behind the goal at the southern end of the pitch in preparation for the pitch to be moved southwards.

Brisbane Strikers Chairman, Bruce Atterton-Evans, has confirmed that although the pitch is “coming along very well” it will not be ready to host the Spirit next week, so the decision has been taken to move the next home game to the club’s other base at Meakin Park.

“This should be for one home game only. We are confident it will be ready by the time of the subsequent home game, in Round 19 against the Gold Coast Stars on 28 July”, Atterton-Evans said.

Kick-off times at Meakin Park will remain unchanged, with the main game getting underway at 6.00 pm preceded by the Brisbane Strikers v Bundaberg Spirit youth fixture.
