Martinez and Strikers Ready for Tough Test Against Roar Youth

Mar 06, 2020 by

Brisbane Strikers forward Emilio Martinez says that he and teammates are expecting yet another challenging game as they prepare to take on Brisbane Roar Youth this weekend.

Roar Youth have been the form team in NPL QLD of late, notching up big wins against Easts and Sunshine Coast Wanderers in their previous two matches.

Strikers, by contrast, go into the game looking to begin building momentum for the season, having experienced an inconsistent run of results to start their NPL QLD campaign.

Emilio Martinez, a former Roar player, says it’s important for Strikers to remember that the season is only just beginning and that there is still plenty of time to turn things around.

“We’ve faced some really strong sides so far this year and this will be yet another one,” Martinez said.

“I think it’s important that we keep focused on ourselves and reach the level that we are capable of playing at as quickly as possible.”

“Runs like this happen it’s just a part of football and now it’s a test for us to see how we can respond.”

Strikers Head Coach Owen Baker says that his side must learn quickly from recent games in order to compete with a dangerous Roar Youth side.

“We need to put last week behind us because the Roar are a very strong side,” Baker said.

“It’s a very important game for us and we will focus on a few key areas that will help us improve.”
