‘Keep two feet on the ground’ the message from Baker ahead of Power game

Aug 21, 2020 by

Brisbane Strikers Head Coach Owen Baker has urged his side not to get carried away with their recent run of results ahead of this weekend’s away fixture against Peninsula Power.

The team have been in excellent form as of late, winning their last three matches in a row including back-to-back wins over high flying Olympic and Lions teams.

Their opponents Peninsula Power have also won all of their last three matches, beating local rivals Moreton Bay United 3-0 last time out.

“Given those recent results, I think other teams see Brisbane Strikers as a tough game but the challenge for us is to continue to show consistency,” says Baker.

“You always have to respect the opposition and think about how they can hurt you, Power are a team capable of causing any team problems in this competition.”

“At the same time, we are very confident in the way we are playing right now so we are going to go there and try to take the game to them and hopefully come home with three points at the end.”

Baker’s humble outlook was reflected in Strikers defender Matt Richardson, who says the key to the side’s recent successes has been a good attitude and hard work.

“Our aim is always to try and get three points in every game, particularly after showing what we are capable of recently,” says Richardson.

“We have a lot of experience in the side, so complacency is not an issue for us.”

“We know as a playing group that we need to turn up and be at our best for every match regardless of the circumstances and as we all know, playing Power away is one of the most difficult fixtures in our league.”

Strikers will have to quickly regroup after the Power game for a Tuesday night home fixture against Olympic, however, Owen Baker says his team are solely focused on the next game in front of them.

“No, that game will not factor into the way we play this weekend,” says Baker.

“It is vital that we remain focused on the game in front of us and put our full energy into a good performance.”
