Docherty and Strikers up for the challenge against Lions

Aug 14, 2020 by

Brisbane Strikers midfielders Ethan Docherty says his team are ready to face-off against regaining NPL Queensland Premiers Lions FC following their recent run of good form.

Strikers are yet to taste defeat since returning to action after the COVID-19 suspension, picking up two wins and a draw in their last three matches.

Last week was perhaps Strikers’ best performance of the 2020 season, beating 2019 NPL Queensland runners-up Olympic FC 1-0 away from home.

“We’ve been improving every game since I came in and that’s the main thing,” says Ethan Docherty who joined the club during the COVID suspension.

“To get the three points against a great team like Olympic last week shows how much we are improving and it’s all very positive.”

“Lions are always a very quick and threatening team, they’re just a quality outfit all around.”

“It’s a great group of boys we have here and the more we play with each other the more wins I think we’ll pick up.”

Lions have continued their premiership-winning form from 2018 and 2019 so far this season, remaining undefeated in 2020 and currently sitting top of the NPL QLD table.

“Lions at home is the perfect opportunity to back up after Olympic last week, we respect Lions but we’ve done our homework and have prepared to execute our plan on the day as we did against Olympic,” says Strikers Head Coach Owen Baker.

Baker also commented on the impact of his two most recent signings after their first few games with the club saying, “the new boys Ethan (Docherty) and Liam (Cosgrove) have both been fantastic since coming in and they’re great lads so they’ve fit right into our side.”

Interesting Facts

New signing Aden Gardner will be available for selection for tomorrow night’s game after the signing for the club mid-week.

Owen Baker described Gardner as an exciting player and says that he will strengthen the squad.

“Aden is a young and ambitious footballer but has some great experience within the game already,” says Baker.

“He has trained well with the boys this week and we are looking forward to seeing him perform well at our club.”.

Former Bentleigh Greens teammate Ethan Docherty was also full of praise for our new arrival, saying that Gardner is a threat going forward and is a great acquisition for the club.
