Bon Scott Is Strikers’ Number One With A Bullet

Returning goalkeeper Bon Scott is adamant that Brisbane Strikers is the club that will help him realise his professional ambitions.

The 22-year-old gloveman has committed to a second season at Perry Park after a stand-out 2019 campaign that saw him become a cult hero.

A former Australian youth representative, Scott announced himself to whole country with outstanding performances in the Brisbane Strikers’ history-making FFA Cup run.

Further, his consistency and affability saw him recognised as the Players’ Player Award winner with the club last season and saw him selected to the NPL Queensland Team of the Season.

Despite plenty of interest from rival suitors, Scott said he believes staying with Brisbane Strikers is the right choice for his career development.

“It feels really good to be back and I am really happy at the Strikers,” Scott said.

“This club is one of the premier clubs in Queensland and that is proven by the number of players from last year that are staying at the club to build on last year.”

“Everyone at Brisbane Strikers is really good both on and off the field and being part of a club like that is something you don’t just walk away from.”

Brisbane Strikers supporters on social media have widely welcomed the return of the goalkeeper, whose famous name has made him the subject of songs in the stands and a favourite with media outlets.

“It feels unreal and when you hear the fans singing the AC/DC songs with your name in it. Now they just need to come up with some more songs for the other players too,” he said.

Strikers The Right Place To Push For Pro

Scott has made no secret throughout his career that he wants to test himself at the highest competitive levels possible.

He has trialled at a number professional clubs both in Australia and in England and was previously part of the youth set-up at Newcastle Jets.

He believes no other club can provide him with the platform he needs to push his case for a shot in the professional game.

“The reason I have signed on with Brisbane Strikers is because I want to push on to the next level and this is the club that will help me do that,” he said.

“There was interest from NPL clubs down south but for me I wanted to be at the best club possible for my personal development right now.”

“For me, the season coming is about getting even better as a player. Obviously, part of that is because I want to do well for this club but also because I want to push on to higher levels.”

“I just have to keep working hard at Strikers and I am confident more opportunities will come if I do that,” he concluded.

Coach Backs His Keeper To Continue His Rise

Brisbane Strikers Head Coach Owen Baker sees no reason why his goalkeeper cannot make the step up to higher competition in coming years.

However, he said for now his first-choice gloveman has a big role to play in his side’s 2020 campaign.

“Bon was exceptional for us last season,” Baker said.

“He made only a minimal number of mistakes and he made some game-defining saves. Having a goalkeeper like that gives great belief to the other players in the team.”

“I am very much looking forward to seeing him grow further next season and take his game to that next level along with the rest of the team. We are certainly aiming for more clean sheets and Bon will be a big part of helping us achieve that.”

“He is ready to work with us to further refine some of his goalkeeping attributes and that will make him better prepared for the next level when given an opportunity,” he concluded.

More Signings To Come

Brisbane Strikers will announce further signings in coming days as Owen Baker continues to lock in the key pieces of his 2020 squad.
