Baker Pleased With Cup Preparations

Brisbane Strikers head coach Owen Baker says his team’s preparation is well on track ahead of their FFA Cup Quarter Final.

Brisbane Strikers will host NPL2 Victorian club Moreland Zebras next Wednesday in the history-making clash – the first ever Quarter Final appearance for both clubs in the competition’s history.

Brisbane Strikers will bring strong form into the match after a four-match undefeated run in all competitions, including a 1-0 win over Manly United in their last FFA Cup match in August.

Baker said his team are chomping at the bit to further extend their season with another win.

“The lads are in good spirits and there is a lot of excitement building ahead of the game,” Baker said.

“They have been working very hard on the training ground and they all know that is extremely important if they are to perform on Wednesday night.”

“We want to extend our season and we are doing everything we can to achieve that aim.”

With a two-week lay-off since their last match in the National Premier Leagues – a 1-1 draw with Western Pride – Baker said his team have focused on game-realistic training situations to keep themselves sharp.

However, he said the time between competitive matches will not be a hindrance to his team after notching 34 competitive matches this season – the most by the Brisbane Strikers since the demise of the former National Soccer League in 2004.

“The players are feeling fresh. Together with our High Performance Unit, we have worked hard to design a program that ensures our players are ready for the game.”

A win for Brisbane Strikers will see them become the first ever Queensland club to reach the FFA Cup Semi Finals.
