The Brisbane Strikers Under-19s have crashed out of the Hyundai State Youth League Finals after losing 4-3 to the Queensland Academy of Sports in the Preliminary Final at Kawana today.
The Strikers, who won the championship with daylight second, suffered their first loss to the QAS this season in extra time after being upset 3-1 last weekend in theMajor Semi-Final by the Sunshine Coast Fire at Gympie. The QAS will now go on to contest the Grand Final against the Fire.
Strikers co-coach Martin Large said that the superior fitness of the QAS had made the difference for them against his team in extra time.
“The difference was fitness at the end of the day”, he said. “We missed a couple of opportunities to finish it and we got caught as a result. We just didn’t have the legs to finish it”.
