Socceroos Train With Strikers
Despite last weekend’s 3-2 loss to the Sunshine Coast Fire there is likely to be an extra spring in the step of the Brisbane Strikers players when they go to training this week.
That is because they will have the opportunity to train alongside Socceroos Craig Moore and Jon McKain.
Moore, who parted company with the Brisbane Roar prior to the end of their A-League season before having a short stint with Greek club Kavala, has returned to Brisbane to rehabilitate one or two injury niggles while working to maintain his fitness ahead of the World Cup Finals in June and July. A training stint with the Brisbane Strikers who are, of course, coached by his former Roar team mate Stuart McLaren, is part of this plan.
McKain, who currently plays for Wellington Phoenix in the A-League after several seasons in Romanian club football, previously played for the Brisbane Strikers in the NSL and was part of Australia’s 2005 Confederations Cup squad.
McLaren said today the two are bound to set a positive example for his ambitious young squad, who will have the opportunity not only to learn from them in training but also, no doubt, absorb something from them of what it takes and means to be a professional footballer.
“I hope they (Moore and McKain) will also be impressed with our young lads”, he said.
